Positive: The hotel is very close to the shrine and the staff is very helpful. I'm sure the lake view is fantastic though with all the rainfall and fog when we were there, we didn't get to enjoy it. The shuttle service from the bus station is also very convenient.
Negative: The hotel seriously needs to start catering for vegetarian and vegan customers. Our stay coincided with a major storm, which meant that we were mostly confined to the hotel. Even though vegetarian options are very limited, we chose to have dinner at one of the hotel's two restaurants - the only one with a vegetarian dish on the menu. However, we were told that it was full. It would have been appreciated if upon check-in, we were informed in advance that we had to make a table booking, especially given the circumstances. The restaurant staff could also have been more flexible. Having said that, the reception staff was very helpful in booking us a table at a nearby restaurant and arranging transport. That was very much appreciated.

Positive: We thought the place was very nice, location is amazing and great view. We enjoyed the garden and the food at the Japanese restaurant is very good. Confy rooms. We loved the onsen as well and had a relaxing time.
Negative: Hotel could use with a little refresh, a bit old style. No possibility of double bed which as a newly wed couple we struggled with.

Positive: The gardens were beautiful and lovely views of Mount. Fuji on a clear day. Onsen was great and well stocked with amenities. Really appreciated laundry facilities. Single unit washer and dryer adds soap automatically to load well for average ¥500 per load. Breakfast and dinner were both delicious and beautiful. Stayed for 2 nights and would definitely stay here again in the future.
Negative: The only negative is that the property is a bit far from the nearest train station. Rode the bus for about an hour to get there from Odawara station.
Summary: Beautiful views of Mount Fuji and Lake Ashinoko, delicious meals, great value.

Positive: landscaped gardens, proximity to lake and town, history of the hotel,
Negative: Wasnt to pleased to be informed that there were no ammenities in the room, that included tooth brush, which was told was available in another location outside of the main building. Usually for this price range soap, toothpaste, tooth brush is included, if not, it should be identified at time of booking, so you can bring one with you.
Summary: Old historical hotel, in great location, large sized rooms, excellent views.

Positive: So peaceful and scenic. Customer service was excellent. I was very humbled by the respect and kindness the staff showed. Rooms are really nice. We had a rented car so easy for us to get around.
Negative: My room included breakfast. The Japanese Vegan breakfast charged me for coffee :( I found that unfair. The smoothies were small test tube shots… (I felt that was taking the micky to be honest)
Summary: Beautiful scenic hotel. Despite the breakfast blips, I would stay here but choose to have breakfast outside the hotel.
